Digital Citizenship tip of the week:     With our reliance on supporting claims with research and data, more than ever students need to be aware of how copyright works.  Having a conversation about how to use and cite resources from the internet, explaining what  fair use  means, and understanding why it matters will help them in their academic future to live in a digital world safely and respectfully.  Here are some tips that you can discuss with your student:  http://bit.ly/2hdl46E Chromebooks:     Though we generally shut off our Chromebooks by closing the lid, over the weekend your student may want to try powering the device down completely by using the power button located on the right side of the device.  A complete power down will allow the device to update fixes for program glitches that can occur.   eAccess Library Cards:    This week over 400 students received Washington County online library cards during their Community

The WCCLS ecard that Westview students will  receive later this month will grant students access  to the library system’s online databases, ebooks and  digital audiobooks.  This free service provides us with a collection that  is over 100 times larger than our own. As we move forward with this  partnership, it is important to note that students will be taking on new  responsibilities* for their learning: Students  will automatically be able to download eContent with their new library cards at  no charge. This includes ebooks, audiobooks and access to all the online  databases. If  students wish to check out physical materials from a local WCCLS library,  students will need to  bring photo ID and proof of address to any WCCLS library  to activate this feature of their card. Students can reserve materials online but must pick  them up and return them to one of the local branches of WCCLS.  Sunset is  not a drop off location for any physical items.
